About Thatch Cottage
The cottage is comfortably furnished and
retains plenty of character. Most rooms have beams and the original stonework is
exposed in many areas.
The cottage sleeps 5. The house has two double
bedrooms (one with en-suite bathroom) and a single bedroom.
The fully fitted kitchen leads to a dining area.
From here four steps lead up to the lounge which has a vaulted ceiling. The window seat is the
perfect spot to enjoy the views over Blackmore Vale.
Stairs from the lounge lead up to the main bathroom and a single bedroom
– with window seat overlooking the cobbled hill. A further flight of
stairs behind a door on the small landing leads up to a double bedroom
which has a window overlooking the Vale and a second window overlooking
the cobbles.
A door from the lounge leads to a flight of steps down to a double
bedroom with en-suite bathroom. This room has views over the Vale.
A door at the bottom of the steps leads to the well stocked garden. Here
you will find table and chairs so that you may, if you wish, dine ‘al
fresco’ on the south facing terrace whilst enjoying the wonderful view.
Walking from Thatch Cottage
Leaving the cottage, turning right takes you up the cobbled hill
(pedestrian only) to the centre of Shaftesbury. At the top of the hill
is a well regarded cafe which is open all day. In Shaftesbury you will
find a variety of shops, pubs and eating places (Italian, Chinese,
Indian, French and English cuisine). Also the remains of an Abbey which is
situated on Abbey Walk which has more lovely views.
Turn left down the hill and in two minutes you will find yourself in quaint St James Street. Here you
will find The Two Brewers public house which also serves meals.
St James
Street
soon leads to open countryside. There are many suggested walks (booklet
in cottage) which will help you to explore the area.
